The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men’s hockey team used every last second to win their season opening game 5-4 on Sept. 28. The victory came against this year’s newest addition to the Canada West hockey league, the Mount Royal Cougars.

Roger Jolly and his wife Marie, owners of the Yamaha Piano Centres in Saskatoon and Regina, recently donated an eight-foot Bechstein concert grand to the University of Saskatchewan. According to Jolly, the university’s new Bechstein is one of the top ten pianos in the country in terms of quality and craftsmanship.

When I heard that Andy Shauf was coming to do a concert in Saskatoon with local artist Zachary Lucky, I knew that I had to get an interview with him. While Shauf, who is playing on Sept. 27 at Village Guitar and Amp Co., performs in Saskatoon a couple times a year, there is extra buzz around his name this fall as he is set to release a full-length album, The Bearer of Bad News, Nov. 6.

On Sept. 21, first-year medical student Kaitlyn Hughes walked across the stage tentatively to receive her new uniform. As the crisp, white coat was draped on her shoulders she realized the burden it comes with. The University of Saskatchewan’s white coat ceremony introduced 100 new students to the College of Medicine. It is the largest freshman class in the school’s history.

Oh, Sloan. I’ve loved their albums since I was a zitty-faced teen and I still love them now, as a 29-year-old scumbag.
I’ve always been more in love with Twice Removed than any other album of theirs, mostly due, at first, to its accessibility. One song after another is pop perfection. Luckily for me, they played that classic album in its entirety at their Sept. 19 show at Louis.
