Tokyo Police Club and the Arkells rocked the Louis’ crowd Sept. 27.
The Arkells’ opening set was dynamic, featuring tracks like “The Boss is Coming,” successfully getting the crowd dancing early on.
TPC for their part opened strong with “What’s your Favourite Colour” and kept the set moving with old songs, new songs and a Weezer song encore.
Weirdly, every TPC show ever gets mad moshing and crowd surfing going in the tiny bar environment. At least in Saskatoon.
“There’s always a few guys moshing, but in Saskatoon it’s really intense,” said the guitarist Josh Hook after the show.
The manic keyboardist/tambourine ingenue Graham Wright confirmed that this may be due to the solid “bro contingent” that’s into their music.
“Tokyo Police Club look like they were made in a lab to play college shows,” said bro Andrew Roebuck, an expert on college shows and partying.
Details like Hook’s beard, Wright’s horn-rimmed frames and lead singer Dave Monk’s flowing greasy hair suggest that Roebuck is correct. That, and the palpable energy in the crowd.
