Google and Apple recruiting at U of S
Google and Apple are coming to the University of Saskatchewan as part of the Computer Science Students’ Society career fair on Feb. 9.
While the CSSS career fair is an annual event, computer sciences department instructor Chad Jones says this the first time Google and Apple have come to the U of S for recruitment purposes.
The event includes both company booths and presentations. Presentations take place in the Thorvaldson Building and booths will be set up on the third floor of the Spinks Addition of the Thorvaldson Building. Apple presents at 3 p.m. and Google at 4 p.m.
Students who submit their resumes to Google representatives will also be entered into a prize draw!
Other businesses at the fair include Vecima, PotashCorp, SaskTel and IBM. For more information, see the Computer Science Students’ Society website at csss.usask.ca.
Former FNUC student president charged with theft
Following allegations raised last month about the spending habits of higher-ups at the First Nations University of Canada, a member of the FNUC students’ association has been charged with defrauding the association.
According to court documents, former FNUC students’ association president Blue Pelletier allegedly wrote $35,000 worth of cheques to himself between August 2006 and February 2007 while he was with the Saskatoon branch of the students’ association. Pelletier is facing charges of fraud and theft.
Pelletier graduated from FNUC after studying business administration and Indian communication arts. He was the FNUC students’ association president for the last two years of his academic career.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 15 in the Saskatoon provincial court.
Art, activism, food and more at International Week
International Week runs Feb. 1 to 12, with events taking place nearly every day.
On Feb. 5 Project Hope will present the movie Slingshot Hiphop and an open mic poetry jam in the Neatby-Timlin Theatre (Arts 241) at 7 p.m.
The Carnival of Solidarity and Global Citizens’ Gala takes place Feb. 6 at Louis’. There will be live music from The Rebellion and The Peacoats, food and drink, awards and more. Cost is $5, with proceeds going to Room for Improvement Youth Development.
Project Hope, the Saskatchewan Council for International Co-operation and Mobilization for Global Justice are hosting a workshop and discussion on integrating arts and activism. The free workshop takes place in Arts 263 from 1 to 4 p.m on Sun., Feb. 7.
