After a brief closure, the Campus Cove has reopened in its new location under the main stairway of Place Riel.
University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union president Warren Kirkland says the Cove and the campus computer store are important parts of the new Place Riel.
“The Cove and the computer store are the first of many steps toward the completion of the new building,” he said.
The next renovated portions to open in Place Riel should be the expanded Global Commons and food court, he said.
The new facility is slightly smaller than the old location, coming in at a total of 3,046 square feet — 753 square feet less than the previous spot.
The Saskatoon chapter of World University Services Canada is holding a series of salsa workshops Feb. 27 and 28 to raise money for their Shine a Light campaign.
The nation-wide campaign seeks to help women in refugee camps pursue their education through and beyond primary school through the creation of scholarships and the purchase of solar lamps. Women are typically expected to spend much of the day doing chores so they are unable to attend school. At night, the lack of light prevents them from studying. Nearly $25,000 has been raised so far across Canada.
Events begin on Saturday with a Cuban-style beginner salsa class from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by another beginner class — L.A. style — from 1 to 3 p.m. On Sunday, from 10 a.m. to noon there is a Zumba fitness workshop, followed by an intermediate / advanced salsa workshop at 1 p.m.
All workshops are at Centennial Collegiate, located at 160 Nelson Road and are $20 each.
