After missing the playoffs by one point in each of the past two seasons, the women’s Huskies soccer team looks to benefit from the league’s new playoff structure. The Canada West women’s soccer league changed its league format after announcing the addition of three new teams this season. The ushering in of Mount Royal University, Winnipeg University and the University of Northern British Columbia to the 2012 soccer schedule has prompted the league to double the number of teams that make playoffs.

Despite a perfect weekend, playoffs were just out of reach for the Huskies women’s soccer team.
Going into their final two games of the season, the Dogs needed two wins and required both the University of Calgary and the University of Victoria to lose all their remaining games in order to secure the Canada West’s fourth and final playoff spot.

The Huskies men’s soccer team lost a crucial game this past weekend in Calgary, meanwhile, the Huskies women’s soccer team fared slightly better with a tie game.

The Huskies women’s soccer team handed the Alberta Pandas only their second loss of the season Oct. 2 with a 3-2 win at Foote Field in Edmonton.
After splitting goals in the first 10 minutes to open the game, the remainder of the first half was all Huskies as their three goals within the half proved too much for the Pandas.
