The thirst for beer will compete with the thirst for knowledge as the University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union gets set to host its two-day Welcome Week afternoon party in the Bowl. Starting at 11 a.m. on Sept. 6 and 7, the event is set to include live music, information tables, giveaways and beer gardens.

It was morning and I sat by the phone waiting for a call from one of the members of The Cat Empire. I was excited, even though most of my friends hadn’t heard of them or their music.
The band, a cult phenomenon that sells out shows in their native Australia and in Europe, have struggled to break into the North American market. Prior to this interview I didn’t know much about The Cat Empire either, including how much I would grow to like them.

The student group Women in the Legislature, or WiL, will hold a panel discussion at Louis’ Pub next week to discuss the role of women in politics.
Panelists will be Loleen Berdahl, professor with the political studies department; Jennifer Campeau, Saskatchewan Party MLA for Saskatoon Fairview; and Judy Junor, former NDP MLA for Saskatoon Eastview.
WiL is a non-partisan, student-run initiative to educate students on women’s under-representation in legislatures across the country and inspire more women to become politically active.

With the $29-million dollar renovation of Place Riel wrapped up this fall, the next major infrastructure project on the University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union’s radar is the Memorial Union Building. During the summer, the USSU attempted to give Browsers a new look, as finances for the cafe and bookstore have dipped in the red in recent years from a decline in used book sales.
With Browsers floundering under a lack of sales, and nine years since a major renovation to Louis, the question is: should Louis’ relocate?

From the ashes of last year’s Louis’ Talk Show rises a new Monday night feature: Game Show.
While Game Show is essentially indistinguishable from Talk Show — the same host, the same ’80s music and the same kitschy prizes — it focuses more on the audience participation factor that was always the best part of Talk Show. It does away with the monologue, the wet blanket co-host Paul McMurtry and the occasional dud of a guest.
