Do you ever wonder, as you walk by, what’s going on in the practice rooms of the Education Building, the studios in the Murray Building or the classes in the John Mitchell Building? What are the fine arts majors doing in there?

The Gordon Snelgrove Gallery, Quance Theatre and Greystone Theatre performances exist to remedy some of that mystery. This year, a new initiative adds itself to the roster of events bringing student art to the community.

The current exhibition at the Gordon Snelgrove Gallery is Construct!, an MFA visual arts exhibition showcasing work from students of both the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan. By November 28, 2011

In the market for some new artwork to brighten up that dilapidated hovel you call a home? Why not stop by the VASU art auction, Silence!, and take your pick from a selection of fantastic pieces of student artwork. Everything is reasonably priced, and you can gorge yourself on fancy hor d’oeuvres to your heart’s content. There’s even going to be a live DJ — none of that elevator music in the background bullshit. Buying anything at the event supports student artists and future exhibitions.

  • Snelgrove Gallery exhibitions explore the space in us and around us

    By November 9, 2011

Shell, the show by Vanya Hanson takes space and turns it into a mystifying playground. As I walked into the Snelgrove Gallery I was drawn by noises of echoes, bubbles, resonance and small speech. This place is as provocative as it is ambient: warm peaches, purples, oranges and beiges surrounded with accents of blue and green light. It is both alien and of-the-body.

  • Multidisciplinary Art Project The Great Mystery brings spirit of Burning Man to Saskatoon

    By October 19, 2011

I just went to write a review.

Some time later I was lying on the floor in a dark room. Only black light. Above, dancers whirled neon-laced hula-hoops and fiberoptic rainbow wands. They wore tight black suits with fringy neon epaulettes.
