Islanders net-minder Martin Biron was sporting new headgear in the form of a custom mask during the portion of the Islanders Saskatoon training camp.

Acquiring Dwayne Roloson from the Edmonton Oilers in the off-season will definitely help the New York Islanders on the defensive end of things this coming NHL season.
The 39-year-old Simcoe, Ont., native helped the Oilers nearly win the Stanley Cup in 2006 after going an impressive 12-5 in the first three rounds of the playoffs and was also named to the NHL Western Conference all-star team in 2004.

University of Regina Rams football player Spenser Borlase, 18, was killed in a car accident Sept. 11.
The accident took place at about 11 p.m., on Highway 11 near the village of MacDowell, south of P.A. Borlase was heading north, the only occupant in the vehicle, when he veered into the other lane and collided head-on with a vehicle heading south.

South African female sprinter Caster Semenya’s career and recent gold medal in the 800-metre world championships at Berlin last month are in jeopardy due to allegations that the 18-year-old phenomenon is a man.
“We are a normal family who looked at a child when she was born, saw that she was a girl and raised her as any other family would do. Are we now being told that we are wrong?” said Semenya’s uncle.
