The Huskies are hoping that their luck on home turf continues Oct. 14 when they line up against the league-leading Calgary Dinos for their final home game of the season.

Saskatchewan has yet to lose inside Griffiths Stadium this year, but they will be greatly tested by the undefeated Dinos — earlier this year, the Dinos beat the Dogs 38-24 in Calgary.

  • Huskies men’s soccer winless streak continues

    By October 5, 2011

Andrew Hood of the Alberta Golden Bears could not be stopped as the Huskies’ winless streak continued Oct. 1 and 2 in Edmonton.

The Dogs faced the Bears twice this past weekend, losing 2-1 in the first game and tying the second game 1-1. Hood, a midfielder who was switched to striker for the weekend in order to spark Alberta’s offence, scored all three goals for the Bears.

The Huskies women’s soccer team handed the Alberta Pandas only their second loss of the season Oct. 2 with a 3-2 win at Foote Field in Edmonton.

The running back rushed for over 200 yards and had two touchdowns in the Huskies’ 36-33 win over the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds at Griffiths Stadium Sept. 30. It was only his second game of the season as he was sidelined early in the year with a shoulder injury.

  • Minor hockey has its ugly side

    By October 2, 2011

Using his influence and elite hockey status, Bob McKenzie has certainly inspired an in-depth look into the ugly side of “crazy” minor-hockey parents.

McKenzie himself admits that since his sons have grown to the ages of 22 and 25, he doesn’t spend as much time around the rinks as he used to. So if these jaw-dropping and seemingly scandalous stories of calling stick measurements on 11-year-olds happened more than a decade ago, how bad has it really gotten?

  • CIS in no rush to mirror NCAA transgender policy

    By October 1, 2011

The National Collegiate Athletic Association recently adopted a new policy for transgender athletes, but Canadian Interuniversity Sport and many other Canadian athletic associations are in no rush to do the same.

The NCAA’s policy states that any athlete who has testosterone in their system as the result of medical treatment cannot compete on a women’s team. The CIS, however, will likely not implement its own transgender policy any time soon. It is waiting for a set of guidelines from the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport on how best to include transgender athletes within their league.
