In the Sept. 23 issue, the Sheaf published an article regarding Madam Justice Catherine Aitken of the Superior Court of Ontario denying Kyle Freeman’s requests to donate blood because of his history of having sex with other men. This article raised a lot of questions among students regarding the ban on gay blood donations, so we decided to do a follow-up interview with Ron Vezina, spokesperson from Canadian Blood Services, to clarify what the ruling means.

I grew up in rural Saskatchewan and people everywhere were furious with the gun registry. The big complaint was, of course, that it would criminalize innocent people like farmers and duck hunters. This was some of the rhetoric I grew up with and heard on the radio, watched on television and read in the newspapers.

I was in Toronto directly before and directly after the G20 summit. I left for Kingston because I couldn’t go to work. The restaurant I worked at was forced to close for a number of days. Also, I left because I didn’t want anything to do with the summit.
