The University Students’ Council was the shortest yet this year, lasting only 10 minutes. Perhaps a revolt is in order, or at least a motion to force Students’ Council to stay in the room for at least 30 minutes. They could trade Pokemon cards or something to pass the time.

In June of this year, the World Health Organization officially declared H1N1 influenza (swine flu) a pandemic with an alert level of six, the highest on the scale. Transmittable between humans through airborne means, this new strain circled the globe in just a few short months, making it the first flu pandemic in 41 years. The reason for this particular virus’s virulence is said to be found in H1N1’s recent mutation, combining four pre-existing influenza strains into one.

For most people, spending a hot summer month sifting through dirt in Spain is no vacation ”” but for University of Saskatchewan archaeology student Landon Perlett, it was the working vacation of his dreams. In his final year of forensic archaeology, Perlett was looking to get some hands-on experience during the summer.
