Vancouver-based indie rock band Mother Mother is back on the scene with its fourth album, The Sticks, a year since their last album. The five-piece group is going strong, complimenting their existential themes, melancholy and introspective lyrics with driving beats and catchy instrumentals.

Along with the DC Comics “New 52” marketing relaunch, in the last few months there have also been miniseries that have introduced more faces to this new version of the universe of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. One such miniseries is The Ray, written by the team of Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti, and with artwork by Jamal Igle (pencils), Rich Perrotta (inks) and Guy Major (colours). Currently on issue two out of six, the miniseries is worth a read.

Two years since their debut album Lungs in July 2009, English indie pop group Florence and the Machine released their second album, Ceremonials, in Oct. 2011 to a patient and loyal following. And for the most part, it was worth the wait. If this collection has its flaws, though, it’s in its lack of variety.

It’s sad but true: there aren’t a lot of Christmas video games out there. Sure, you can dig out your PS2 game adaptation of The Nightmare Before Christmas or load up a holiday-based texture pack in Minecraft or Team Fortress 2, but there’s not a lot else that may be common knowledge (or any good). As a gift to Sheaf readers, here’s a list of holiday and winter-themed games, all of which are enjoyable and a great way to get in the holiday mood while you procrastinate studying for finals. You might not know about Kid Koala, but you probably know some of the things he has worked on. The Canadian DJ has contributed to the scores of Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, composed for the Cartoon Network and released three albums of his own, the last of which was Your Mom’s Favorite DJ back in 2006.
