    It has been four-and-a-half months since Victoria Ordu and Ihuoma Amadi have set foot outside. Ordu and Amadi, both University of Regina students, have been seeking sanctuary in a Regina church since June 19 when they each received a deportation order after they violated their student visas. The students worked at a Regina Walmart for two weeks in spring of 2011 without proper social insurance numbers or work permits.

  • Lights out at the Canadian Light Source: over a month of beam time lost due to cooling failure

    The synchroton is no longer emitting any light after a failure of the system’s cooling plant shut down the light source and all research being done at the facility. Research at the Canadian Light Source was brought to a halt last month after the cryoplant, the cooling system for the synchrotron, failed Oct. 6.

FirstVoices Chat is an iPhone application with over 100 keyboards for indigenous languages compatible with Facebook Chat and Google Talk.

    The undergraduate referendum question for the proposed spring and summer universal bus pass, or U-Pass, has been given the green light by students’ council and the students’ union lawyer. The question asks whether or not students support the implementation of a manditory U-Pass for the spring and summer academic terms, costing $36.75 each session.

    The university is looking to rezone the land next to the Stadium Parkade for a hotel development. The plot along College Drive is currently home to beach volleyball courts and a century-old seed barn, both of which will be demolished in 2013.
