As every expert in every field ever suggests, some of this year’s candidates have linked their campaigns into social media. We’ll try to offer a comprehensive list of the campaigns as they come to our attention.
Presidential hopeful Scott Hitchings’ Facebook campaign has started strong, with 141 members by 9:30 p.m. on the second day of campaigning, March 22. He’s linking to all kinds of coverage, so regardless of who you support in the various races, it’s a useful source.
Leejay Schmidt, one of four candidates in the vice president student affairs race, created a politician page which allows Facebookers to like his campaign. He provides regular updates of his activities on campus, like taking the Take a Stand pledge.
He’s also got a website, a testament to the computer geek in him, where supporters can pledge and students can check out his platform and posters.
Justin Lasnier has a Facebook group with 213 members as of 4 p.m. March 22. It offers up his platform for VP student affairs, which has less to do with water fountains than anyone who attended the first candidate’s forum might imagine.
The neatly-bearded Alex Ferwerda’s web campaign is a Facebook group that has 229 members as of 9:30 p.m. March 22. The page features his platform and “Student Affairs, Who Cares, I do,” his tuneful plea for voters’ attention.
Reid Nystuen’s Internet presence takes the form of an event — convenient for remembering when to actually go vote — that lists his platform as the page’s description.
Let us know if you’ve spotted other web campaigns, and we’ll add them here.
Voting begins at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30 and ends at 4:00 p.m Thursday, March 31.
