A personal guide on the city’s events and activities to explore this month!
Amid the Fall semester, it can be easy to get lost in the busyness of trying to complete assignments and study for upcoming exams. To help keep up with the rush of our academics, it is best to plan some days off for fun ahead of time. Here are some events/activities to check out this month in the city!
If you’re a big fan of exquisite crafts, check out the Tiger Lily Artisan Market on November 15 and 16. Taking place at the Remai Modern, the market will host over 60 artists from Saskatchewan who will showcase their work across all three floors of the museum. Along with general admission tickets to this showcasing, they are also offering VIP Access. Not only does this entail having earlier access to the market than the ones who have general admission tickets, but there are other perks to it. For instance, when you first enter the establishment, you are given a glass of bubbles along with a sugar cookie goody bag and a Tiger Lily ceramic ornament. If you want to get VIP access, it would be from 4 to 6 p.m. on November 15, and you would need to pay a set ticket price. General admission is by donation and is from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on November 15 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 16.
For the movie fans, the Saskatoon Fantastic Film Festival kicks off on November 15 and will be going on until November 24. A variety of films are scheduled to play during this period, and a schedule has been created on their website to allow potential viewers to plan which ones they want to watch. Tickets and badges are available for purchase early this month at 715 Broadway Ave, in Saskatoon, where the festival will take place. They can also be bought online or over the phone. Prices vary depending on how many films you are planning to watch.
Looking for something to sustain your musical cravings? Check out ‘An Evening of Pink Floyd’ on November 16. This harmonious night will be taking place at 7:30 p.m. at the TCU Place, in the Sid Buckwold Theatre. Organized by the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, this night will be filled with tunes from their albums The Wall and The Dark Side of the Moon. Ticket prices of tickets are dependent on the theatre seat you would like to see the show from.
If you’re in the mood for a different kind of show, one of the most special holiday events in the city is the BHP Enchanted Forest. This magical light tour opens on November 16 and will be available to enjoy until January 5 from the hours of 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person or $35 per car (with up to seven people in it). Located at the Forestry Farm Park, the Enchanted Forest has been one of the longest-running holiday light shows in the city and arguably one of the best ones. It is personally one of my favourite activities in this city, as it has created many amazing memories with my loved ones since I was a little girl.
Just in case you haven’t had your fill of festivals yet, there is another one to check out this month! The Saskatoon Festival of Trees will be taking place from November 22 to the 30, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day. Not only will you get the chance to admire astonishingly decorated trees, but other activities will take place during this festival. There will also be several creatively decorated gingerbread houses and wreaths for people to view. It is stated on the website that this is a cashless event, with debit or credit being only accepted for specific purchases. All proceeds earned from the festival will be utilized within the Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation. Admission prices vary depending on age.
Now if two festivals aren’t enough for you, let’s make it three with Prairieland’s Glow Festival! This dazzling light festival captures the city’s holiday season perfectly by featuring food, kid-friendly activities, a market and live entertainment for everyone to enjoy. There are several spaces in this delightful indoor area to take as many pictures as you’d like. It’s one of those events that people in this city look forward to the most during the holiday season. The Glow Festival will be running from November 29 to December 29, with the hours varying each day. Ticket prices also vary depending on age.
November can be a hectic time in the semester for us students, as some are finishing their last set of midterms while others are gearing up for finals season, which will be here before we know it. I know it’s easier said than done, but it is always beneficial to set aside time to just have fun without it being associated with your academic life. As someone who’s also trying to maintain this balance as well, I know it can be difficult don’t get me wrong. However, I tend to be more efficient with fulfilling my academic tasks when I’ve indulged in fun activities, because I don’t feel burnt out from my responsibilities. So, get out there and re-energize yourself before finals season begins to avoid burnout!
