Trixie and Katya LIVE brings comedy, singing, and most importantly, drag.
Drag Queens Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova are bringing their international tour to TCU Place on Sept. 29, 2022 at 7:30 PM.
The two performers are legends of the hit series RuPaul’s Drag Race. Trixie competed in the seventh season in 2015, then returned to win the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars. Katya competed alongside Trixie in the seventh season of the show, placing fifth. After that, she went on to be runner-up in the second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars.
Trixie has released 3 albums, as well as a cosmetic line. Katya recently completed a sold-out tour with over 80 stops around the globe, along with releasing her first TV standup special entitled Help Me I’m Dying. They are also co-authors of the New York Times bestseller, Trixie and Katya’s Guide to Modern Womanhood.
The iconic drag queens co-host the YouTube Show UNHhhh and the Netflix-produced series I Like to Watch together. UNHhhh, a series running since 2016, features the two comedians discussing a new topic each week as a subject for their dark humour, although they almost always go off on hilarious tangents as they do so. The first season of I Like to Watch premiered in 2019. In this series, Trixie and Katya view and react to popular media from Netflix Original Programming.
Now, Trixie and Katya are bringing their explosive performances and dark adult humour to warm a chilly September night in Saskatoon.
If the concept or performance of drag is new to you, here’s a little history about the culture and art form these performers are making waves in.The art form commonly known as “drag” has been featured in theatre from Ancient Greek through Shakespearean times, and into the present day. The performance style rose in popularity during the gay culture and rights movements of the 20th century, as it began to be used as a form of self-expression and LGBTQ2S+ pride.
Today, drag is considered a mainstream pop-culture phenomenon. It has been popularized by the reality competition TV show RuPaul’s Drag Race and other drag events, as well as via the personas of iconic divas such as Trixie and Katya.
Drag has come a long way since its Greek and Shakespearean origins. In the modern day, typical drag shows include lip-synching and dance, but the gender-bending performers can also participate in numerous other kinds of entertainment, as Trixie and Katya often do.
Drag artists dress in exaggerated clothing and makeup to assume the presentation and roles of a certain gender, usually the opposite of what the performer generally identifies with. Drag Queens are most often men, and commonly queer; however, drag queens that are transgender or cisgender women have been growing in number in recent years.
Now, these divas are taking their talents for showbiz and comedy on the road with Trixie and Katya LIVE, a ground-breaking tour with dozens of stops around the world.
Reviews for the show highlight the charisma and humour of the performers that fans have come to expect. Throughout the show audiences can look forward to seeing everything from singing (covers and some of Trixie’s original songs), to dance numbers inspired by musicals and even scripted acting and comedic improv. If that sounds too tame for you, the duo is including / has added aerial stunts that will leave audiences dazzled. There is far more to Trixie and Katya LIVE than just beautiful costumes.
So grab your tickets before they’re all gone. This is one show you won’t mind getting dragged to.
