On behalf of the current board of directors and staff of the Sheaf: 

Due to recent events, it has come to our attention that our policies need upgrading and refining to make the Sheaf a stronger organization. One of the events that we are referring to is the recent article that was taken down from our website. As we transition into a new board and staff, we are working hard and closely as a team to edit, improve and put the article back up. However, this is taking some time as the COVID-19 pandemic has impeded many of our mechanisms and communication methods as is the case with many other organizations and individuals.

The Sheaf has been a student newspaper for over a hundred years, and because of this, every so often, a situation arises in which we lack the tools or policies to rely on. All of us at the Sheaf believe in strong journalism and a safe work environment and we will be focusing on these values in the coming months. It is under this current board’s opinion that, for our organization to learn and grow from the past year, we need to focus on new policies, as well as edit previous ones. We have made significant headway in reorganizing the structure of the Sheaf to ensure that future staff and board members are more appropriately equipped to navigate the waters of modern-day journalism. 

The Sheaf has always prided itself on offering students a chance to experience journalism and media. We will continue to learn and grow as an organization, to bring journalism opportunities to the University of Saskatchewan, and to provide students with news around our campus. The board and staff believe that the U of S has some truly amazing students, staff and alumni that deserve to have their experiences written about and shared with our campus community.  We all look forward to this year as a chance to work with new volunteers, provide new stories and focus on voices that will help us move the Sheaf forward. We also appreciate the enthusiasm from the public and past alumni for ensuring that the Sheaf is the best version that it can be while maintaining journalistic integrity and accountability. 

We are excited for this opportunity to strengthen our organization and to learn and provide strong journalism around our campus. 

We want to thank everyone who continues to support the Sheaf and wants to help guide it into the future. Enthusiasm and support from our volunteers, staff, board members, alumni and readers are what allow the Sheaf to remain relevant and intact.  

We look forward to the future stories that we get to bring to the U of S campus and our readers.
