The latest album from part-time New Pornographer and full-time enigma Destroyer is titled ken. Like so many others lately, the album unabashedly taps into the musical zeitgeist of the 1980s, but in a more nuanced way. Centred around droning synth arrangements, ken is obviously more production-heavy than any of Destroyer’s previous works. At times, ken feels like it could be the soundtrack for The Breakfast Club — but in a good way. Check out “Tinseltown Swimming in Blood,” and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
