Huskies teams fared well on the track.

The Huskies men’s and women’s track and field team competed against teams from the Universities of Regina, Calgary and Alberta at the Prairie Quad held in the Saskatoon Field House on Jan. 11.

The University of Regina Cougars won the team competition portion of the meet, finishing 3-0 in dual standings on both the men’s and women’s side. The Huskies finished third on the men’s side with a 1-2 record after losing to the Cougars and the Alberta Pandas. The women finished second after going 2-1, with their only loss coming against the Cougars.

In individual events the women’s team took home five golds, four silver and one bronze. Taryn Sutter claimed gold in the shot put and weight throw events. Sutter threw 15.68 metres in the shot put and 17.72 metres in weight throw. Amanda Banks won the 1000-metre race with a time of 2:52.61 and Katrin Ritchie won the 600-metre race in 1:35.68. Lauren Taylor took home gold in high jump with a height of 1.70-metres.

Silver medals were won by Astrid Nyame in the 60-metre hurdles, Elecktra Charles in the 1000-metre, Courtney Erickson in pole vault and by the Huskies 4X200-metre relay team. Mignon le Roux finished third in pole vault.

The men’s team finished with three gold, two silver and two bronze. Nolan Machiskinic won the weight throw event with a toss of 16.36-metres. Jared Olson won the 60-metre hurdles with a time of 8.57 and Davis Guenther won the 1000-metre clocking in at 2:29.76.

Machiskinic also took home a silver in shot put with a throw of 15.67-metres. Ryan Kowalchuk  won silver in the 600-metres with a 1:22.74 finish.

Bronze medals were awarded to Taryn Heidecker in the 1500-metre, Cole Digel in high jump and Calen Auckland in pole vault.

The Huskies compete in the Golden Bear Open in Edmonton, Alta. on Jan. 17.
