Enchanting indie folk artist Ingrid Gatin is dropping by Vangelis March 23 as part of her cross-country tour.

The artist, who’s been playing music since her first piano lessons at age four, will be travelling from Halifax to Victoria and back again. This will be her second performance at Vangelis after nearly six years performing under her own name — Gatin got her start performing in Winnipeg with bluegrass band Magnificent 7’s.

“Vangelis is awesome,” Gatin wrote in an email to the Sheaf. “We’ve played it once before and can’t wait to do it again.”

Gatin’s music combines piano, accordion, violin, guitar, vocals and harmonies. There is “lots of emotion within our songwriting and in our performance, as well as some sweet cover tunes to mix it up,” Gatin said.

Alongside Gatin will be Montreal-based solo artist Laura Beach, who performs under the name Twin Voices. Beach’s performance centres upon looping vocals and guitar.

“I’m lucky to be having her open up the show every night,” Gatin said. “I like every one of her tunes, and I play on a few of them too. It’s wonderful.”

Both artists focus heavily on the use of instrumentals, and they occasionally perform together.

“Our music tends to work really well together,” Gatin said.

Next for Gatin is a tour of Whales and a few European shows, which will see her travelling through France, Norway, Germany and the UK.

“I love the adventure because it is never what you expect it to be,” Gatin said. “You end up in a new city, with people you’ve never met, and the connections you make are amazing and people are so inviting just because you make music.”
