Excitement filled the Bowl early in the day on Sept. 4 as over 2,000 new students were welcomed and introduced to the University of Saskatchewan at orientation 2012.
After receiving their free Huskie Athletics t-shirt, first-year students took part in a mass performance of the macarena to fill some time before university president Ilene Busch-Vishniac gave her orientation address.
Divided into groups according to their college, the new students were guided by over 200 volunteers who led them on tours of campus in order to prepare for the first day of classes.
Various campus clubs and services packed the Education Gym with information booths at LIVE Expo as they promoted themselves and recruited new students to become members. Some university colleges and departments, local businesses and community members were also on-hand with their own interactive booths.
Students were encouraged to participate in games during the lunch hour before heading off to their respective colleges where they learned about expectations and met some of the staff and student societies.
Aboriginal, international and graduate students were introduced to campus the following day, Sept. 5, as each group attended separate welcoming events in the morning. The Greystone scholars held their own welcoming events in the afternoon.
The Arts and Science Transition Program Orientation was held the same day on the Royal West Campus, located a few blocks north of 22nd St. W. Students were able to meet their instructors, go over different study strategies and take part in a mock lecture.
