The University of Saskatchewan men’s soccer team are still alive in the 2012 Canada West playoff hunt.
After a heavy snowstorm postponed the game Nov. 1 the team defeated the Victoria Vikes 2-0 at Foote Field on Nov. 2.
Brett Levis, Saskatchewan’s highest scorer in the regular season, had a huge game assisting in the first goal, and scoring the second. Levis set up second-year midfielder Bobbi Nicholat for the squad’s opening goal in the 42nd minute.
The Huskies kept up a strong defensive game, protecting their one goal lead. Goalkeeper Mark Diakiw made five saves in the match.
Then in the 90th minute Levis iced the game by firing a shot past Victoria’s goalie Elliot Mitrou. Earlier in the day Levis was named a Canada West all-star for his efforts in the season, the sophomore striker finished second in the conference scoring race with nine goals, six assists and 69 shots in the regular season.
The Dogs will now have to wait for the results of the other quarter final games to find out who they will face in the Canada West semifinal.
