The University of Saskatchewan men’s soccer team are still alive in the 2012 Canada West playoff hunt after a heavy snowstorm postponed the game Nov. 1. The Dogs defeated the Victoria Vikes 2-0 at Foote Field on Nov. 2.

The Huskies women’s soccer team has earned a spot in the postseason for the first time in the squad’s history. In 1999 the team was also in the playoffs, but only made it by default because Saskatoon was the host city of the tournament-style post-season that year.

The Huskies men’s soccer team were disappointed with the outcomes on the pitch while traversing British Columbia on a road trip Sept. 28 and 29. Meanwhile, the Huskies women’s squad also found themselves on a western road trip Sept. 28 and 29. The team lost both games they played but played well against a pair of teams that have been in the CIS top 10 rankings this season.

Last season Brett Levis was named a Canada West second team all-star after posting four goals on 37 shots as a rookie with the club. Now in his second season with the Dogs, Levis quickly reminded everyone of his offensive prowess in the first game of the season when he scored two goals against the Winnipeg Wesmen.

It is a rarity in the sports world to see two or more siblings playing at a high level of competition in the same sport. Professional examples include the six Sutter brothers who played in the NHL, sisters Venus and Serena Williams play professional tennis and, of course, Peyton and Eli Manning both quarterback NFL teams.
