The polls are closed and the election results are in: Don Atchison will remain the mayor of Saskatoon. His 34,489 votes defeated Tom Wolf’s 31,085. Clay Mazurkewich finished with 605 votes.
Donald Atchison — Mayor
Don Atchison has succeeded in his fourth run for mayor since his election in 2003 after serving nine years as a city councillor. Atchison will now become the longest serving mayor in Saskatoon’s history.
Platform notes:
- Atchison endorses the U-Pass and says that “university students are the biggest customers for Saskatoon Transit.” Atchison would like “more rapid transit in the city to better serve customers, offering higher frequency times,” but notes that buses are expensive.
- He emphasizes the importance of creating enough jobs for post-secondary graduates in Saskatoon so students have the choice of continuing to live here after graduating.
- Atchison not only wants to see continued employment growth, but he also emphasizes the importance of “high-paying jobs.” The recruitment of “national and international corporations into the city’s employment market” may be one way to accomplish this tedious task.
