University administration ignored hiring recommendations in two cases recently.
The StarPhoenix reported that in both cases, candidates chosen by volunteer search committees were rejected.
The most recent case involved the selection of a new Dean of Law, in which university president Peter MacKinnon’s choice of candidate got the job in place of the commitee’s recommendation.
Similarly, a position in the school of environment and sustainability was filled by an undeclared candidate. The top recommendations of the volunteer committee was ignored.
The search commitees represent a cross-section of students, deans, professors and professionals. Their work involved interviewing and reviewing candidates, and all the work is done on a volunteer basis.
