On Feb. 6, the Half-Marathon for Haiti fundraiser was hosted by Brainsport, The Running Room and the Saskatoon Road Runners Association. Beginning at 9 a.m., about 200 runners, walkers and all sorts in between converged on the Meewasin Trail for an informal run or walk of five, 10 or 21 kilometres, warming up post-race with coffee, tea and treats from Caffe Sola. Although there was no official race entry fee, the event raised over $15,000 in Haitian relief funds, with individual pledges ranging from $5 to $200.
All of the funds will go to Plan Canada, a non-profit aid organization, and will be matched by the federal government. Brainsport pledged $5,000 and at press time, donations were still being tallied from the Toonie Run, a concurrent event held for elementary school students.
