After dismal seasons last year, both the Huskies men’s and women’s volleyball teams started the 2012-13 season expecting to improve their record. Now halfway through the season, the men have proven themselves to be a stronger team than last year while the women still struggle to find the win column.

Braden McLean is a volleyball globetrotter. Along with being a dominant force in the middle for the Huskies men’s volleyball team for the last three years, he has been playing for Canada in international tournaments.

Last February, in the final weeks of the 2011-12 season, the Huskies men’s volleyball team managed a string of three consecutive wins, their longest streak all season. However, it only pushed their team record to a meager 4-16 on the season, leaving them outside a playoff spot.

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men’s volleyball squad recorded its first sweep of the season Jan. 27 and 28 in Kamloops, B.C.
Led by middle blocker Geoff Zerr, the Huskies were able to come back from a two-sets-to-one deficit in the weekend’s first match and win it 15-8 in the fifth and final set.
