On Feb. 1 in Regina, nearly 200 students took to the streets to protest the increasing costs of post-secondary education. And while I support the idea of highlighting the costly burden of a university education, I believe my fellow students’ efforts are misplaced.
Do I wish my classes were more affordable? Of course I do. I strongly advocate for disassociating a student’s family income, personal income and assets from student loan applications in an attempt to make student loans more accessible and, therefore, make university more accessible. But I’m not going to stomp my feet and publicly decry the premier of Saskatchewan for not caring about students.

Today the Wikimedia Foundation announced that Wikipedia will be shut down for 24 hours, worldwide, beginning at 11:00 PM Central time.
The black-out is in protest of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA), two pieces of proposed American legislation tabled in the U.S. Congress and U.S. Senate respectively.

Citizens from across the country, donning cowboy hats, delivered to MPs’ constituency offices petitions and copies of a condemning report released by the Canadian Bar Association, encouraging their members of Parliament not to “mess up like Texas.”

I have lived in multiple cities before and Saskatoon is probably in the worst condition. Now before you bitch at the foreigner who isn’t even from this province, please let me explain. Put away the torches and pitchforks.
Go to the City of Saskatoon’s “Quick Facts” page online and what do you see? Pictures of the city skyline, though not in winter. You also see people walking by our beautiful riverfront, once again, not during winter. To an outside observer, Saskatoon would seem pretty awesome. And yes, we have a total of 2,381 hours of sunshine a year, the Saskatoon Exhibition, Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan and our famed uranium and potash industries.
