The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men’s hockey team used every last second to win their season opening game 5-4 on Sept. 28. The victory came against this year’s newest addition to the Canada West hockey league, the Mount Royal Cougars.

The Huskies women’s hockey team has plenty of new faces this season after graduating seven players at the end of last year. With most of the players entering the season as rookies out of high school, the Dogs will attempt to prove to the rest of the league that their young players can compete among the best teams in the conference.

Brett Ward doesn’t always score goals, but when he does he makes sure they are game winners in triple overtime.
Ward’s shot from the point in the sixth period of the third and deciding game of the Canada West final March 11 at Rutherford Rink found its way through screened University of Calgary Dinos netminder Dustin Butler’s pads and pushed the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to a 2-1 win and their first conference title since 2007.
