Bert Weichel, a University of Saskatchewan geography and environmental studies lecturer, has built himself a home just south-west of Saskatoon using straw bale construction. He says humans have been using straw structures for centuries, and that it is a cheap and eco-friendly alternative to conventional building materials.

The Globe and Mail has just released the results of its undergraduate student survey, which grades 53 Canadian universities. Reflecting the opinions of more than 38,000 undergraduate students, the survey provides a letter grade to universities in a range of different categories, including quality of education, food and sports facilities.
