But in Friday night’s Uteck Bowl, all that mattered was what Quinlan saw on the scoreboard.

    The Huskies gave all they had in the Nov. 5 Canada West semifinal match-up against the UBC Thunderbirds, but saw their playoff dreams dashed by the number six ranked team in Canadian university football.

    The game played at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver was a back-and-forth brawl that started slow but picked up momentum in the second half, ending with a 27-22 final score.

    The fireworks in Griffiths Stadium provided more of a spark than the University of Saskatchewan Huskies offence Oct. 14 in the Dogs 20-8 loss to the University of Calgary Dinos.

    “I think we dropped five or six passes. We didn’t run hard, we didn’t block anybody, and it was pretty much a total offensive collapse,” said Huskies coach Brian Towriss.

    The Huskies are hoping that their luck on home turf continues Oct. 14 when they line up against the league-leading Calgary Dinos for their final home game of the season.

    Saskatchewan has yet to lose inside Griffiths Stadium this year, but they will be greatly tested by the undefeated Dinos — earlier this year, the Dinos beat the Dogs 38-24 in Calgary.

  • Ben Coakwell returns to stop Huskies’ losing skid

    Ben Coakwell’s presence was exactly what the University of Saskatchewan Huskies offence needed to get out of their slump.

    The running back rushed for over 200 yards and had two touchdowns in the Huskies’ 36-33 win over the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds at Griffiths Stadium Sept. 30. It was only his second game of the season as he was sidelined early in the year with a shoulder injury.
