Andrew Hood of the Alberta Golden Bears could not be stopped as the Huskies’ winless streak continued Oct. 1 and 2 in Edmonton.
The Dogs faced the Bears twice this past weekend, losing 2-1 in the first game and tying the second game 1-1. Hood, a midfielder who was switched to striker for the weekend in order to spark Alberta’s offence, scored all three goals for the Bears.

The Huskies women’s soccer team handed the Alberta Pandas only their second loss of the season Oct. 2 with a 3-2 win at Foote Field in Edmonton.
After splitting goals in the first 10 minutes to open the game, the remainder of the first half was all Huskies as their three goals within the half proved too much for the Pandas.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association recently adopted a new policy for transgender athletes, but Canadian Interuniversity Sport and many other Canadian athletic associations are in no rush to do the same.
The NCAA’s policy states that any athlete who has testosterone in their system as the result of medical treatment cannot compete on a women’s team. The CIS, however, will likely not implement its own transgender policy any time soon. It is waiting for a set of guidelines from the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport on how best to include transgender athletes within their league.

The Huskies men’s soccer team saw their three-game winning streak ended in their final match of this past weekend.
The Dogs played two games on the road Sept. 17 and 18 against the University of Fraser Valley Cascades and the University of Victoria Vikes. They defeated the Cascades 4-1 in the first game but were upset 2-1 by the Vikes on the following day.

The Huskies’ all-star defensive duo of Peter and Luke Thiel suffered a major blow Sept. 17 in the Huskies’ loss to the Manitoba Bisons. Luke broke his arm.

Both U of S Huskies soccer teams had their ups and downs during last weekends opening season games, but in the end came out looking strong for the upcoming year.

Brothers Zach and Dylan Hart played for opposing teams during the Huskies v. Rams football game at Griffiths Stadium on Sept. 9. While the Huskies defeated the Rams, watching Dylan leave the game on a stretcher wasn’t what Zach wanted to see.

U of S President MacKinnon had three major initiatives when he took office 12 years ago ”” to reopen the College Building, to build more residences and to build a new hockey arena. The College building was reopened in 2005 and the first of two new residences just opened this summer, but campus has yet to start construction on a new rink.
Fortunately, an arena with two ice surfaces is part of the university’s College Quarter master plan and has become a top priority for the president’s office.
