    The group, one of Canada’s oldest student groups, is raising money to purchase solar lamps to help girls living in refugee camps study at night. According to the group, most girls in long-term refugee camps don’t even get to finish primary school.

    The University of Saskatchewan will host western Canada’s largest university business competition in Januray 2011.
    Edwards School of Business students Stephanie Ulm and Matthew Bennett presented their bid to host 2011’s Jeux du Commerce West on Aug. 22 in Prince George, B.C., at the University of Northern British Columbia. After the University of Manitoba and Simon Fraser University dropped out of the bid competition, only the U of S and University of British Columbia remained.

    Over 350 cyclists descended on city hall Sept. 28 in a massive show of gratitude to city councillors for the new bike lanes downtown. Cyclists started at Caffé Sola and, with police escort, rode down to the river past city hall, finally winding around to flood the main entrance of city hall, bells ringing. Carrie Catherine, a friend of McLean, played music for the group as they biked, sitting on a wagon pulled by a cyclist.

    Up until recently, the city wanted to renovate the Mendel but that changed earlier this year when plans were unveiled for the AGS. Supporters of the Mendel are furious with the decision, which took place without public consultation. Even members of the Mendel family did not find out about the change before seeing it on the news.

    Almost every arts major on the University of Saskatchewan campus will invariably have to deal with the following line: “So, what use is your degree? I mean, what can you do with it?”
    While I can’t speak for other arts students, as an English major, my answers are essentially “Read and critique literature,” and “Teach English.” Most of the time, this is met with either patronization or disdain. I once had somebody simply shake their head and cluck their tongue.
