The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men’s hockey team used every last second to win their season opening game 5-4 on Sept. 28. The victory came against this year’s newest addition to the Canada West hockey league, the Mount Royal Cougars.

The 10th-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies walked out of McMahon Stadium in Calgary humbled after being crushed 45-4 by the second-ranked Dinos on Sept. 29 .

The University of Saskatchewan cross country team competed in its first event of the year Sept. 22. The Huskies attended the Cougar Trot, an annual event held by the University of Regina Cougars.

Huskies safety Bryce McCall sits on the verge of entering the CIS record books. McCall has been a menace for opposing teams’ quarterbacks his entire university career. Now midway through his final year of eligibility with the Dogs he has 20 career interceptions, only one away from tying a CIS record.

The Huskies women’s hockey team has plenty of new faces this season after graduating seven players at the end of last year. With most of the players entering the season as rookies out of high school, the Dogs will attempt to prove to the rest of the league that their young players can compete among the best teams in the conference.

Last season Brett Levis was named a Canada West second team all-star after posting four goals on 37 shots as a rookie with the club. Now in his second season with the Dogs, Levis quickly reminded everyone of his offensive prowess in the first game of the season when he scored two goals against the Winnipeg Wesmen.
