Homophobia tarnishes our nation’s character


You can walk through any high school in North America and hear the words “dyke” and “faggot” spoken as if they were okay to use when it quite obviously isn’t. The prevalence of this language is attributable to homophobia: something that has been present throughout history and has not yet diminished as much as other forms of discrimination such as racism or sexism.

Standoff with Iran over nuclear program could lead to conflict


U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney has described Iran as “the greatest threat that the world faces over the next decade.” Surprisingly this is the first time that I have agreed with something a Republican candidate has said in as presidential campaign. For numerous years, Iran’s continuing development of a nuclear program has been cause for concern to the international community, with condemnations coming from the EU, U.S. and Canada, among others.

There’s no excuse for voter apathy


On Nov. 7 inhabitants of Saskatchewan will go to the polls to vote for new leadership. Unfortunately, it is too often in Canada that we neglect or take for granted the freedom that we have to choose the people who lead us.

How far would you go to have a child? Would you risk your health, the health of your spouse or most importantly the health of the fetus? There will always be risks when a child is born — this is an unavoidable part of life — but the job of a doctor is to lower those risks, reduce the danger of procedures and protect a patient’s wellbeing. When a doctor graduates from medical school they must swear to uphold the Hippocratic Oath, which states that they must “never do harm to anyone.” so what happens when a doctor fails his or her oath?
