Dive into Fall with Broadway’s festive fair, a thrilling corn maze, a heart-pounding charity run, and guided tours of cranes—all while making the most of your semester!
With the Fall semester starting soon, students are gearing up for a hectic period in the year. However, it’s important to enjoy the process of it all by embracing the seasonal traditions along with the academic opportunities. To do so, our city has many events in store to check out with your friends this Fall.
An event to mark in your calendars is the Broadway Street Fair that takes place this year on September 7th. The one-day event takes place on Broadway Avenue from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and allows the community to come together to enjoy a variety of food and arts. This street already is one to appreciate in our city, but with this fair taking place, it will be a day to remember!
Another favourite Fall activity that many Saskatoon residents love is the Strawberry Ranch Corn Maze. This is a corn maze that is designed in a different shape for people to get through and out of. It can be an exhilarating experience trying to figure out what path leads to where and is a good bonding activity between any group of people doing this together. The corn maze is located at 301 Valley Road and is open until September 2nd, but then resumes on September 6th to the 30th and October 1st to the 14th on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The hours for it are from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. , but hopefully it doesn’t take that amount of time to get out of the maze!
An event that also will get your heart racing is the Saskatoon Heartbeat Run which is taking place on September 15th. Depending on what kilometer run you choose to register for, there will be multiple starting times during the day. These runs are taking place to support the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundations Mending Little Hearts Fund of Saskatchewan. Not only will it be for a good cause, but the route of the run will begin and finish at Meewasin Park which showcases incredible views of the city’s river and its naturalistic surroundings.
If you’re in the mood to learn, there are a variety of Whooping Crane and/or Sandhill Crane guided tours and photography sessions or workshops taking place on some dates in September and October. The timings vary depending on what kind of tour you want, which can be public or private and one- or two-day, and are led by Stan Shadick. The tour entails observing cranes in fields near Saskatoon, since that is where they reside during migration in the Fall. Participants will have the chance to learn more about their conservation while they enjoy the views of the prairies.
Now that you all have an idea on what this city has to offer in the Fall, I encourage all of you to check at least one of these events out. Not only is it crucial to work hard this semester, but to also play hard!
