Pop music often gets a bad rap — and sometimes it deserves it. When a genre is predicated on being appealing to the widest audience possible, it runs the risk of being lifeless. However, once you get past the ever-predictable and hyper-formulaic Top 40 charts, pop is a genre worth following. Toronto-based artist U.S. Girls proves this with her latest release, In a Poem Unlimited.
In a Poem Unlimited is an ambitious noise-pop record that is somewhat antithetical to most pop albums. The album revels in cacophonous arrangements, has little sonic continuity between songs and will make you reconsider what you think you know about pop music.
