Pretty soon you will have to remove your bottle caps from your bottles to get them recycled.
The Saskatchewan Association of Rehabilitation Centres is introducing a ban on bottle caps for April. Leave a lid, and you won’t get the deposit fee back.
The motivation of the ban is primarily to reduce wrist injuries to SARCAN employees, who may suffer repetitive stress injuries from the repetitive motion of removing the caps. Employees at the 71 Saskatchewan recycling locations deal with approximately 145 million bottles a year, so they are running a bottle cap removal awareness campaign until the ban comes into effect.
