As of Sept. 1, U of S students can no longer pay tuition by Visa.
Visa does not offer the option of an added administration fee, making it an expensive service to continue.
Last year, credit card payments cost the university approximately $900,000.
Mastercard is still accepted for tuition payments online but not in person. A one per cent administration fee will be added to each charge to offset the cost of offering credit card payments.
The revenue from administration fees should cover half the cost of offering tuition credit card payment.
All other goods and services on campus will continue to accept both major credit cards.
Other schools have eliminated Visa payments, including the University of Alberta in 2008. Many smaller schools, including the University of Regina continue to accept Visa.
