The women’s basketball team was upset by the University of Calgary Dinos, losing for only the second time this season.

The Dogs defeated the Dinos 73-58 on Jan. 17, but couldn’t find the same form the next night as they fell 58-49. The team is now 12-2 on the season and is tied for first place in the Canada West division with the University of Alberta Pandas and the University of Regina Cougars.

The Dogs used a strong fourth quarter to down the Dinos on Friday night.

Starting steady, the Dinos led 20-13 after one quarter of play but by the end of the half their lead had dwindled to a single point. With one quarter left, the Dinos still held onto a small 48-44 edge. The Dogs dominated the fourth quarter, scoring 29 points compared to the Dinos’ 10 to complete the comeback win.

Dalyce Emmerson recorded a double-double with 31 points and 14 rebounds. Riley Humbert added another 13 points while Kabree Howard and Kiera Lyons each added 11.

The Dinos got the better of the Dogs on Saturday night, netting a 58-49 win to end the Huskies’ eight-game winning streak.

Early on, the Dinos dominated the court, running out to a 20-9 lead after the first quarter. The Dogs upped their play in the second but the Dinos still led 35-22 as the first half came to a close. The Huskies tried to fight their way back into the game but the Dinos continued to hold them off.

With one quarter left to play, the Dogs trailed 35-47. The Dinos continued to apply pressure and forced the Huskies to concede their second game of the season.

Emmerson led the Huskies with 15 points and 26 rebounds. Lyons added another eight points.

The Huskies host the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns on Jan. 24 and 25.
