On Mar. 16, in a move that shocked many, rapper and hoverboard enthusiast J Staxx announced his self-funded, dark horse candidacy for the position of the University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union president for the 2016-17 year.
The election for the USSU executive will take place from Mar. 23–24, and while political pundits had been anticipating a relatively unremarkable campaign trail, J Staxx’s entrance to the race raises the excitement.
Declaring that he was self-funding his campaign with a large cereal bowl full of cash, J Staxx’s radical platform includes running large deficits to improve university infrastructure — with an end goal of making all of campus wheelchair accessible. Despite having missed the deadline for nominations, J Staxx is currently polling with a double-digit lead.
While he was unavailable for comment, a campaign aide told the Sheaf, “J Staxx is prepared to turn things around and pull the 360 this campus so sorely needs.”
