The Saskatchewan Huskies men’s volleyball team only needed one win against the visiting Manitoba Bisons to clinch a home playoff date, and they got it Friday night.
Playing inspired to get that home playoff spot, the team blasted the number-three ranked Bisons with kills and took the match 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-21).
The following night the Huskies lost 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20).
Seven teams make the Canada West post-season. The Alberta Golden Bears, who posted an impressive 20-2 win-loss record, finished first and will get a bye in the opening round of playoffs. They will also host the Canada West Final Four tournament Feb. 22 and 23.
The Dogs finished 15-7 on the season with 30 points. Their third-place finish in the standings sends them to the post-season for the first time since 2004-05.
They now host the sixth-place Brandon Bobcats in the quarter-final best-of-three match. The games will be played Feb. 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. and, if necessary, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in the PAC.
