The contested cold beverage agreement with Coca Cola finished June 2010, two years after the agreement was originally slated to end.
Coca-Cola fulfilled its sponsorship responsibilities to the University of Saskatchewan on time, but the university failed to sell 150,000 cases of drinks in the original 10 year period. Coca-Cola remained the exclusive cold beverage supplier on campus to allow the university to fulfill its part of the contract but did not provide additional sponsorship.
In addition to complaints about the contract, student groups expressed concerns about the environmental impact of bottles on campus and Coca-Cola’s ethical practices.
Since April the campus community has been encouraged to give feedback for future agreements.
So far, 28 per cent of respondents responded favorably to another exclusive agreement, while 45 per cent support exploring other options.
Students can still provide feedback at usask.ca/coldbeverage.
